Winding Limestone Stair with an Iron Balustrade

Photographed from the landing looking down, this reclaimed limestone stair turns through a quarter landing in treads of warm cream stone flecked and clouded with age. The treads are laid in long slabs with tight joints and softly worn front edges, and the run is bounded by an iron balustrade of plain square balusters caught at mid height by small forged diamonds, beneath a dark timber handrail. Lamplight rakes across the surface and picks up every hollow. Available to buy, it suits stair halls, town houses, boutique hotels and renovations where the stair turns rather than runs straight.
